It all begins with a first step.

July 25, 2011

The first step in any endeavor is always difficult, but the simple act of choosing to begin seems to be the most difficult step of all. So it is whether we write, quilt, cook, or take our lives in some new direction altogether.

If you are new to writing, as many of my friends are, take that first step. Choose to put some thoughts on paper or processor. Don’t let the blankness fool you. Don’t think of it as a pristine unblemished surface that disdains words. Think of it as a plate that you hold in your hands, one poised above an amazing buffet of all the tempting elements of verbal communication. Sample bits of everything until your plate overflows.

As you would with a real buffet, don’t worry if you find you picked up something that doesn’t suit you. There are plenty more items to try, and you have the option of a fresh plate every time, so fill that empty piece of paper or screen with random thoughts. Save them if you like them, or delete them all and begin anew.  You are allowed!

I hope you’ll join me in this new blogospheric undertaking. There is so much out here to share!
